GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY

Ground breaking for the new FORSCOM/USARC headquarters was held on December 8, 2008.

The ceremony marked the beginning of a multi-year construction project to build the future home of the headquarters of U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) and the headquarters of the U.S. Army Reserve Command (USARC). The scheduled move of the two Commands from Fort McPherson, Ga., to Fort Bragg in 2011 is the cornerstone of the local BRAC plan, which will maximize the military utility of the fort.

“Today’s ceremony marks an important milestone in the efforts to re-station the headquarters of the United States Army Forces Command and the United States Army Reserve Command,” said Gen. Charles C. Campbell, commander, United States Army Forces Command.

As the Army’s largest Command, FORSCOM is responsible for more than 750,000 Active and Reserve Component Soldiers nationwide, which will add to the significance of Fort Bragg as a Center of military influence and importance.

“This modern, combined headquarters will also help to create an even greater level of cooperation and teamwork between FORSCOM and USARC by bringing them together under one roof,” said Campbell.

USARC is responsible for the command and control of all the nation’s Army Reserve forces, and it provides the logistical, operational and functional oversight to ensure wartime readiness of all Army Reserve units.

HQ FORSCOM and USARC have received inquiries from various businesses in the Fort Bragg area asking for the opportunity to share information with staff.  Although the information will be helpful to the workforce, FORSCOM and USARC are legally precluded from direct involvement with these commercial activities.  FORSCOM and USARC also want to avoid any perceptions of favoritism.

The BRAC Regional Task Force is coordinating the efforts of the 11 counties and would be the best point-of-contact for your business questions.  Businesses may reach the Fort McPherson workforce through the The Sentinel, the installation’s weekly newspaper, by calling 770-478-5753, extension 277.
